In His Hands
I went outside one cool morning to wash some buckets that I needed to return to a friend. As I lifted a smaller one that was stacked inside of a larger one, I found an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail hiding in the small space between the two buckets. Since butterflies can't fly unless the temperature reaches around 60 degrees, it had found a safe place to hide until it was warm enough to fly away.
I recently finished a study on the book of Exodus and I thought of Moses as he hid in the cleft of the rock. God had already protected him many times over and He had promised him that His presence would be with him, but Moses wanted to see God in all of His glory. Because no one can see the face of God and live, He placed him in the cleft of a rock and covered him with His hand for protection as He passed by.
How many times in our lives have we wanted something that God protected us from? Sometimes, we may be disappointed because things didn't go our way. God always knows best and whether we ever know it or not, He may have been protecting us during those times. He watches over His children and no matter if He hides us or holds us...we're always in His hands.
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand". -Isaiah 41:10
Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. But,” He said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” And the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. -Exodus 33:18-22
If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. -Psalm 139:9-10
