The Weakest Link

While buying a new ball and drop hitch mount so that we could pull our camper, I noticed the weight ratings marked on each item.  The ones made of heavier steel could handle pulling a heavier load.  As we put the new equipment on the back of the truck, I told Rusty, "It's crazy to think that the weight of the camper is actually being held by the little pin that goes through the hitch." No matter how big the truck or how heavy duty the bumper, hitch, or ball are... if the pin breaks, it all comes loose. This thought is similar to the old saying, “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.” Note to self: Always make sure the safety chains are attached.

Everyone has weaknesses. If you think you don't, you aren't being honest with yourself. (Maybe that's your weakness, lol). I have many. So, I have plenty of work to do. Our challenge is to identify these weaknesses and work towards repairing or strengthening them. If we don't, even those that seem the strongest will come apart when life's burdens become so heavy that we break at our weakest point. However, we don't always have the ability to fix things on our own. The good news is... we aren't expected to.

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians that we are strong when we are weak because the strength we get from God is more powerful than any we could ever find on our own. He even goes as far as saying that he is happy to have weaknesses because they make him stronger, and Christ's power is made perfect. Paul was much better than I am because although maybe I should, I don't usually take pleasure in such things.  But I know this... God wants us to depend on Him.  He wants us to lay our burdens, shortcomings, hardships, and our weaknesses at His feet.  When we do, we'll come out a much better person on the other side.

My prayer this week is that God will strengthen me in areas that I am weak and in doing so, He will receive all glory and power.

But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.  -2 Corinthians 12: 9-10
