Procrastination

I’m sometimes bad about putting things off until the last minute if it's something I don’t enjoy doing. Surely I’m not the only one that’s guilty of that. Although it would be much easier to pace myself and not have to rush to the finish line to meet a deadline, sometimes I can get more done in a short period of time than you would think possible. If you've ever found out that you have last minute, unexpected company coming, you may know what I'm talking about. It's amazing how I can get more cleaning done in a short time frame than I did all week... if I'm in a mad rush. (See video below). John Ciardi is quoted as saying, "Nothing makes a person more productive than the last minute."

For the most part, procrastination only harms ourselves, but sometimes it also puts extra stress on those around us. I remember many years ago when I had to give a speech at graduation. I waited until the last minute to edit and memorize my speech. Mom and my senior sponsors were extremely anxious as the day drew closer and it didn’t look like I was going to be ready. I was confident that it was going to be fine and it was. I delivered the entire speech completely from memory without any hiccups. But I caused undue stress on those around me because I waited until the last minute.

There’s one thing that procrastinating can cause more than stress. It could cost us eternity. No one is promised tomorrow. Every day we hear of people that have passed away that we would have thought would be here for many more years. If you're keeping up with current events, you know the world is becoming a darker place day by day. None of this should surprise us. The Bible tells us of things we’ll start seeing before Jesus returns.

If He is calling you, don’t put off turning your life over to Him. Don't wait until it's too late. He loves you and wants you to spend eternity with Him. Your loved ones are praying for you and they want to know that you've made your peace with God. Don’t let procrastination cost you eternity.

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.  -2 Timothy 3:1-4

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. - Isaiah 55:6
