What A Mess!

Our area received around a foot of snow this past week. It's the most I remember having anywhere we've ever lived. The forecasters called for the weather days prior. But even if you didn't see the news, it was pretty evident a winter storm was on its way by the lack of bread and other items in the stores. The snowfall started on Thursday afternoon and by Friday morning everything was covered. The fluffy white precipitation was beautiful to watch as it fell and blanketed the ground. Schools were closed and the sledding began.

We were blessed by only shortly losing power and having a generator to get us by during that time. Rusty missed one day of work due to road conditions and Sunday church services were rescheduled due to the parking lot being frozen. Other than that, we weren't affected by it too much. We mostly stayed inside where it was warm and waited for it to start melting.

One thing you can always count on about snow, as beautiful as it is and as much as people love to see it, in our area it only lasts for a short while. The once powdery and glistening substance melts into water that must run off or soak in and for us rural residents, the soaking in on gravel roads makes for a huge muddy mess.

While I fully believe that we should enjoy life and not dwell on all of the what ifs, I also think we can sometimes fall prey to things we think will bring us happiness without considering the aftermath. As wonderful as some things may seem in the moment, we need to be sure the choices we make don't just give us temporary satisfaction and then leave us in a mess when it's over. By considering the consequences of our actions, we can be assured that today’s joys aren’t tomorrow’s problems.

One thing we can always count on is the faithful, enduring, everlasting love of God. It will not fade away, dissolve, or leave us feeling empty. He is forever with us.

Long ago the Lord said to Israel: I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. -Jeremiah 31:3 NLT
