Where Are You From?
Where are you from? It's a question I often get when I’m not in my area or if I'm on the phone with someone from another region. We don’t think much about how our voices sound to others within our own country, but as soon as a southerner opens their mouth in earshot of a northerner, they usually know... You ain't from these parts. I've found that even just a couple of states can make a difference. My Mississippi family says I sound different since moving to Arkansas and my Arkansas friends say they still hear my Mississippi southern drawl.
When I think of the many people represented across the globe and how some of us are separated by more than just a few hundred miles and our accents, but by vast oceans and completely different languages, I can't help but think of Revelation 7. While there are many things written in Revelation that are far too complex for my human mind to comprehend, I think I know the meaning of these few verses. There will be people represented in heaven from every country, speaking every language, but all doing the same thing... Worshiping the Lord.
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God. - Revelation 7:9-11
This sums up one simple statement for me. In the end, it doesn't matter where you're from, it only matters where you're going.
As a side note, I recently questioned whether I would continue writing these weekly blogs. I was encouraged to do so and reminded that there were people from several states and even another country reading them. So, as a fun project for the new year and for my own information, I would ask that you leave me a comment telling me where you're reading from. You can comment on Facebook or send an email to julieetheridge72@gmail.com. I look forward to seeing your responses.
Enjoy this Multi Language Compilation.
