A Church Family
Yesterday, most churches had more in attendance than any other day of the year. Although I wasn’t able to make it, I heard that our church had to put out extra chairs. It’s a wonderful place to celebrate a risen Savior any day, but especially on Easter.
Many think of a church as being a building with stained glass or a steeple. Whether that be one that takes up several city blocks or a small building out in the country, but what does the word church mean, according to the Bible? The word comes from the Greek and doesn't have anything to do with the building itself. It actually means an assembly of believers. A group called together to worship the Lord and support each other as one body.
Often, we hear the term "church family". If you’ve never understood the meaning of those words, I’ll be happy to explain them.
Last week, the church body gathered around Rusty to have prayer for him the day before his amputation surgery. Since then, I’ve received many texts and calls checking on his status. Every day last week, someone sent food to our house so that I could focus on caring for him and not cooking. A friend made sure we had a shower chair, picked up prescriptions, and delivered them to us (almost 20 miles out of town). That’s what a church family does. (Special thanks also to my biological family. Some drove from Mississippi to help host a yard sale last weekend and do household tasks this weekend).
We are extremely grateful to everyone that has offered up prayers, given us money, sent food, or even just sent a text. Your care and concern are deeply felt.
If you don’t have a church that you call home, I would recommend you find one. Everyone needs A Lil Church and A Whole Lot of Jesus in their life.
So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. -Ephesians 2:19-20
