The Moral Compass

A few years ago, a friend and I were talking about how some people don't seem to be bothered by things that bother us. The remark was made that we have to remember that all of us don't have the same moral compass.  I'd never really thought of it that way but have thought about that statement several times since then.  A moral compass is defined as: a set of beliefs or values that help guide ethical decisions, judgments, and behavior, or an intense sense of right and wrong. *

I believe we've all been guilty of climbing on our "moral high horse" of self-righteous judgment at times. The Bible gives pretty clear definitions of certain things that are considered sin, and some may not be quite as clear. But one thing is for sure, if the Holy Spirit is convicting you on an issue, it is sin.

In today's society, there are many things we can find ourselves caught up in. We may not agree with our friends, family, or even fellow Christians on some of the many issues that arise each day. We may even find ourselves questioning opinions and beliefs that we have long held, but need to be sure that any stance we take remains grounded in Christ and isn't just an attempt to justify something that we know would break His heart. We can rest assured that even as the culture around us changes, He never does.  He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.

My prayer today is that I stay focused on Christ because no matter what goes on around me, He's the only answer to every question we may have.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. -Hebrews 13:8

For I the Lord, do not change... -Malachi 3:6
