Consistent Christianity

Every Thursday morning, just like clockwork, a lady from church brings a Sonic Lemonberry Slush to my office. She calls it "Thankful Thursday". If she knows that I'm going to be off or if she won't be able to make it that day, she brings it the day before. For a few months, she was staying with her daughter in another state and although she couldn't send a slush, she would send a text to remind me that it was still Thankful Thursday.

As much as I appreciate being appreciated, what sticks out to me the most is how faithful and consistent she is in her effort. It has now been noticed by several others as well and when she enters the door is often greeted with... "There she is!"

In the Bible we're given examples of God's consistency. Malachi and Psalm say that He remains the same and does not change and Hebrews says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  But what does that mean for us?

Many times, life presents challenges that will test our faith and attempt to steal our joy. Although it would be easy to lose hope, we know that living a consistent prayerful life in the midst of trials strengthens our faith during our toughest circumstances.

Rusty will have a third surgery on Thursday. His wound is not healing as it should and intervention is needed.  We are tired and weary.  But we know that even through our trials, God does not change, and neither should we.  So, we will lift up His name consistently, thanking Him for what He has done, and praising Him for what He will do.

For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. -Malachi 3:6

But you remain the same, and your years will never end. -Psalm 102:27

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. -Hebrews 13:8

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. -1 Corinthians 15:58
