What Stress?
Due to family history, I had a few routine tests done last week. I had early morning appointments and thought I wouldn't have to worry about too much traffic, but I was wrong and arrived a few minutes late. After frantically looking for a parking space, I finally found one and made my way into the hospital to check in. They had an issue getting the admissions window to open that morning, so my tardiness didn't affect my check in time at all. I had rushed for no reason.
After one test was out of the way, it was now time for the stress test. The hospital had just acquired a new treadmill system and lucky me was the first person to try it out. The equipment representative was there training the employees on the workings of the new machine. After a while of trying to figure out how to hook me up, I had to perform my walk with a room full of onlookers. When it was finally over with, I was told that I was finished and directed to the exit. I made my way to the packed parking lot and hopped in my car, ready to head to work. As soon as I backed out, someone quickly whipped into the coveted parking space. It was then that I realized, I was supposed to have another test. I tried finding another place to park so I could go back inside and ask about it, but no spaces were to be found. My stress test was over, but my stress was not.
I picked up my phone and called the cardiology department to ask about the other test. Sure enough, I was supposed to have another one and I was already behind schedule due to the treadmill training session. Thankfully, a nice young man stayed on the phone as he directed me to other areas to look for parking and then met me at one of the entrances that was quite a distance away from where I was supposed to be. He took time to be sure I made it to the right place. As we were walking for what seemed like miles across the campus, he said... "You just thought you had your stress test earlier. This is the real one, but we aren't charging you for it."
Although it will be difficult at times, my prayer is that I remember to count all things as joy. God is working on me each day. What stresses me, grows me. In my every day life and in my faith.
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that
the testing of your faith produces endurance. - James 1:2-3
