She Finished the Race

Several years ago, I told her… You’re the friend I didn’t know I needed

After moving to a new area once again and having to leave friends behind that meant so much, I had shielded myself from getting close to anyone else. Yet, here I was meeting someone who had faced struggles time after time and through it all, never let their faith waiver. This was someone I wanted to know. She was pretty much home bound at the time, still recovering from jaw reconstruction surgery but enjoyed visits and the occasional day of piddling, when she felt up to it. She eventually gained her strength and was back into the swing of playing the piano, taking vacations, and helping others any time she saw a need. Unfortunately, that burst of energy didn’t last too long before she was facing a repeat surgery. It was a difficult recovery and it brought along new challenges. After a while, she settled into her “new normal” and went right back to touching the lives of those around her. She loved to cook for others, although she couldn't eat anything herself. She was eager to communicate, even if she had to use her phone to do it, and she was always willing to listen.

Anyone that knew her, loved her. She would say that she didn’t think she had the gift of compassion, but I would beg to differ, because she had a certain way of always making everyone feel special. I'm not certain if she ever realized just how many lives she impacted, but we all knew. Some referred to her as Dr. Hall, many of us just knew her as friend. No matter the relationship, if you crossed paths with her, you were blessed.

Vicki Hall, lived life to the fullest. She had a contagious laugh, bright eyes, and a warm smile. Most of all, she had a heart for the Lord.  She was a faithful prayer warrior that never missed an opportunity to share her love for Christ with anyone that would listen and she wasn’t shy about telling you how you could have a relationship with Him too. She believed that God was good all the time and she was faithful to Him just as He was always faithful to her.

Vicki will be deeply missed and never forgotten. I know my life is better because she was in it and I believe many others would say the same. She was a true example of someone who fought the good fight and finished the race well.

My prayer this week is for her family during this difficult time and that I can follow the example she set by proclaiming the goodness of God in all circumstances

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  -2 Timothy 4:7

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him, - 1 Corinthians 2:9
