Worth the Wait
This year, Kristine ordered a very special Christmas gift for her husband, James. She put lots of thought into the custom made item and was greatly anticipating its arrival. As the days grew closer to Christmas, the package hadn't arrived and tracking was stalled. She was heart broken when she was advised to consider filing a lost package claim. What she thought would be the perfect Christmas gift, might not arrive at all. Thankfully, a few days later, the package was once again on the move and would make it in time for Christmas. Her disappointment turned to excitement.
On this Christmas Day, we celebrate the most anticipated gift we could ever receive. Christ's birth was prophesied 700 years before that world changing day in Bethlehem. That's a long time to be waiting on something. Many wondered if it would ever happen or if God had forsaken them, but He was so worth the wait. May we never lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas. The gift of a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
Old Testament Prophecy:
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. -Isaiah 7:14
The Birth of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke:
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. -Luke 2:1-7
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. -Luke 2:8-11
