Home Sick & Homesick

The above photo is one of my favorite views. I took it Wednesday afternoon as I was nearing the end of my lane and just about to make it to my house. It normally looks especially nice on a Thursday afternoon in the Fall as the tunnel of multicolored leaves lead me home for a long weekend, but this past Thursday was the exception. I left work a little early because I wasn't feeling well. By the time I finished the twenty-minute drive home, the view was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to make it in the door, take some medicine, and go to bed. Thankfully, after a few days of rest and lots of Alka Seltzer Cold medicine, I feel much better. Whether we're sick or just want to kick our shoes off after a long day and get comfortable, one thing is for sure...There's no place like home!

Although we've now lived in Arkansas for 20 years, any time Daddy would call and ask when I was planning to make a visit, he wouldn't ask me when I was coming to Mississippi. He would ask, "When are you coming home?"

I’ve been married and out of the house for 34 years now, but there are still times when I get homesick. The only thing that makes it better is an 8-hour drive to Gloster and a trip down that long, dusty road to the house that sits on the hill in the middle of nowhere. It's different now without Daddy there, but Stump Road will always feel like home to me.

Do you ever get homesick?  Is there a place you long to be?

The Lord has promised those that call on His name a home with Him in heaven. It will be far greater than we can imagine and best of all, we will be in the presence of our Heavenly Father for eternity. It's the home we should all be homesick for.

Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.  -John 14:1-3
