Hold On
A few weeks ago, Rusty and I drove to the top of Mt. Nebo to watch the sunset. It had been a very hot day but there was a nice evening breeze on the mountain and we had the perfect bench seat to take in the view. Many others had also gathered at Sunset Point to watch the majestic orange sphere move through the sky. There were some low lying clouds that evening that began to block the sun as it moved closer to the horizon. Many people thought the show was over and left the area. Rusty and I were still enjoying the view and the breeze, so we stayed seated for a while and kept taking photos. It wasn't long before we noticed a small sliver making an appearance below the clouds. The sun was once again visible for a short time. It wasn't quite as bright this time, but it made for a beautiful landscape scene. If we would have left when everyone else did, we would have missed it.
In Genesis, we read where God promised Abraham a son. His wife, Sarah, was old in age and became impatient. Rushing God's plan, she suggested that Abraham take her maidservant to bear a child for him. The result was a son named Ishmael. However, this caused much bitterness and jealousy in the family. Despite the impatient act, God honored His promise and later blessed Abraham and Sarah with their son Isaac. Thankfully, God does not go back on His word, but I can't help but wonder... What if they would have missed out on their blessing all because of impatience?
Many times in my life, I have grown impatient and wanted to take matters into my own hands. The last several months have been a waiting game for Rusty and I. His recovery from surgery has taken a good bit longer than we anticipated. What was supposed to be one surgery turned into three. I have known all along that God was going to take care of us, but I wasn't sure how it was going to happen. We have had several very unexpected blessings along the way. This journey is still not over, but I'm learning each day to sit back and enjoy the view as we hold on to God.
