Whiplash

I had just pulled up to the drive-thru window at the pharmacy when I realized I couldn’t reach the drawer. I took my seat belt off and slightly opened the door so I could reach the bag of prescriptions. As I pulled away, I noticed that I hadn’t closed the door all the way. So, I decided to open and shut it again while slightly rolling. Since the car is apparently smarter than I am, an unknown safety feature brought the vehicle to an abrupt stop and put itself into park. The unexpected jerk almost left me with a case of whiplash. Wouldn’t it be nice if something stopped us each time we were about to make a big mistake?

As Christians, we have the gift of the Holy Spirit that lives inside of us and convicts us when we are about to do something we shouldn’t like turning back to old sins of the past or diving straight into new ones. I'm thankful that God sent His helper to offer counsel, comfort, and conviction.

My prayer this week is that I listen when the Holy Spirit checks me on things I need to leave in the past or never venture to in the future.

“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. -John 15:26-27

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 3:13-14
