Putting It On Pause

I will be putting the weekly blog on pause for a while. I'll still be sharing things as the Lord uses my everyday stories and struggles, but I am going to take a break from posting weekly right now. 

To be honest, the last few weeks have been hard. I still trust God with everything that is in me, but it has become increasingly difficult to put my feelings into words. I'm thankful that we have the Holy Spirit to help us communicate with the Father in such times.   

Without going into a long explanation, I also recently learned that some of the Christian artists I once held in high regard and even helped promote their music, had completely turned away from the very cause that once drew me to them. This is a good reminder of why we shouldn't put any man or woman on a pedestal, but it's also still disheartening. 

My prayer this week is that I will keep my focus on the One who matters, the One who hears my every prayer even when I can't seem to find the words, and the One  in whom my soul rests when it's weary.   

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. -Romans 8:26-27

  Early last week, Rusty had an oncologist visit to review a recent Chest CT. These are done periodically to check his lungs since that’s the first place sarcoma likes to go. Everything still looked good. It seems the amputation has done its job at removing the cancer before it had time to spread.  On Friday, he finally had the surgeon’s visit he’s been waiting on for months. He was released to start the prosthetic process. It’s been a long road to get him where he is right now. It will still be a while before his new leg is complete, he’s able to walk on his own, and then eventually go back to work, but we’re finally headed in the right direction.  Thank you to everyone that has visited, called, texted, given us money, and most of all…prayed. Third Time's the Charm?

This morning, we sit in the hospital for the third time since April. Rusty’s wound still hadn’t healed and needed more surgery. The infection had made it to the bone.  The surgeon cleared the abscess and drilled the infection from the inside of the bone. He’s been on steady IV antibiotics and has received his picc line so that we can give them at home as well. We’ve been here since Thursday and hope to go home today but it depends on when the final susceptibility tests from the cultures are complete.  We know that God is all powerful and could heal without delay.  One might wonder why it would take three hospital visits to accomplish.  When I think of the significance of the number three, I realize how many times throughout the Bible the number three is mentioned. Heading Home

Usually, I’m excited when I see these bridges because it means I’m crossing over into Mississippi and getting closer to home for a visit. This time, the feeling was different. Rusty and I were headed home for a memorial service for his dad, R.G.   We hadn’t been inside the country church where the service was held in a very long time. It hadn’t changed much through the years and it brought back memories for me of attending revival services, wedding and baby showers, and birthday celebrations there. It was nice to see friends and family that came to pay their respects, but would have been better under different circumstances.  As time goes by and we lose more loved ones, we’re reminded of just how short life is here on this earth.  Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.  Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.
